Datchet Water Sailing Club
hosted the finale of the 2000 BOSS circuit held over the 22nd and 23rd
October. Seven boats, some of which were competing in their first Open
event started on Saturday in a light and shifty breeze. Leading from the
line were Jerry Ibberson and Iain Hepplewhite sailing CREWSAVER, with
Peter Bennett and John Shelton in a close second. On the second run Bennett
found a line of breeze edged past CREWSAVER, holding them to the finish
and taking the first race. Race Officer Peter Short did a magnificent
job, turning the races round very quickly, and set the fleet off for the
second race. Again CREWSAVER lead from the line but with seemingly bad
luck were passed again by Bennett who kept control of the race, taking
his second bullet, with CREWSAVER again finishing second. The third race
was lead from start to finish by Bennett and Shelton with Julian Cramp
and Patrick Carter second and CREWSAVER third. Sunday's racing was abandoned
when the wind failed to materialise.
